In late part of October in 2003 there were a series of wildfires in Southern California. There were localized incidents prior to, but the San Diego fire sparked (pardon the pun) a series of fires throughout Southern Califonia. The Moorpark and Simi fires threatened my co-worker's homes, hopping over 6 lane freeways with the aid of the high winds. The Piru fire almost knocked on my door as you can see in the following photos.

Joshua Tree is not just the name of a U2 album, but a semi-arid desert located in the south-east region of California. The park is filled with the trees of its namesake as well as interesting rock formations. Makes you thirsty just looking at these pictures doesn't it?
